The workshop will be led by environmental dance artist and company founder Dianne Eno, and Project Coordinator Kate Skinner, a Keene area teacher and former dancer with the company. Members of the company will also assist in workshop activities.  Integrated activities will include level-appropriate instruction in environmental dance technique, daily excursions that will inspire creativity and develop the environmental knowledge base of each participant in new and exciting ways, creative movement and dance composition  labs that will explore the creative process while drawing on nature and the unique environmental features of Monadnock as a primary source of  inspiration, Native American Sign Language as an expressive, narrative movement medium and as a way of introducing indigenous environmental values concepts, the development of field and creative/reflective journaling skills and more. Thundermoon, which originally debuted in 1993, aims to encourage the participation of each child in a supportive, alternative, and non-competitive environment.  Our goal is to foster the creativity, knowledge and personal sense of connection to Mount Monadnock as the necessary prerequisites of effective and sound stewardship action through holistically-engaging and uniquely integrated art/ecology experiences. These experiences are carefully designed to develop and deepen our campers’ environmental awareness of and personal relationship to the immediate natural world while at the same time, aiming to encourage a foundational attitude of respect toward nature.

Thundermoon offers the youth and young adults of the Monadnock region a unique, place-based environmental dance adventure that aims to use the art of dance as the vehicle for each child’s expression of their individual and shared experiences of Mount Monadnock, the world’s most climbed mountain. The camp will purposely focus on the history, ecology, culture (and lore) the mountain is known for. Environmental dance will be introduced and utilized as a new medium of experiential learning and the vehicle of expression for each child’s personal experiences and impressions of Monadnock.
